Looking to get your little one into dance? Or just looking for something to help them release all that energy? Our Come Soar Program is the perfect first step for kids ages 18 months to 6 years old (that's right — they're never too young!). No previous dance experience necessary.
Why is the Come Soar Program great for your little one . . . even if you don't think they will be a "dancer"?
Come Soar is all about encouraging creative expression through dance in a non-competitive and positive way. Our Dancing Ducklings, Friendly Finches, Dazzling Firebirds, Beautiful Bluebirds and Graceful Swans classes will help them with balance, coordination, rhythm, and more! Imagination is key in dance, and our program provides a positive outlet to have fun, express emotion, and foster confidence. Whether or not they go on to be a "dancer," these skills will last them a lifetime.
What does an average Come Soar class look like?
Great question! You might know SCD from our beautiful dance productions and assume that we are a rigorous dance studio. Have no fear — Our Come Soar classes are dynamic, engaging, and most importantly, FUN! We use poems, stories, creative props, and music along with an introduction to dance technique basics. Remember, an adult is required to dance with, assist, and monitor their Dancing Duckling!
And not to worry . . . as your little one grows up and graduates into our Classical Ballet program, classes will remain dynamic, engaging, and FUN while at the same time providing students with the technical assistance and support necessary for them to master their craft in a safe and nurturing environment.
What are the Graceful Swans all about?
Another great question! Graceful Swans is the highest level of our Come Soar Program for preballet and is for dancers age 6-7 years old. The Swans use a curriculum based on the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus and is grounded in SCD's belief that imagination is key in dance.
